Also on the dial The Andromeda Galaxy (M31). The seven stars of the Big Dipper are joined by faint lines.
The star identifiers stay with the stars as the field turns anticlockwise around the North Celestial Pole. The planet identifiers move independently because the planets wander against the fixed stellar background. Coordinates are J2000 catalogue values; displayed positions are calculated for the current time. The Sun, Moon and planets sit in their true direction from the pole; their distance from the centre is set to a ring near the rim, so they stay on the dial.
