Sidereal Clocks · Android phones, tablets and Wear OS
The Southern Cross keeps time.
Hand of the Cross turns your phone, tablet or watch into a star clock. The sky is the dial. The Southern Cross rides the Hand of the Cross.
-
The real sky, right now
Real stars, with the Sun, the Moon and the planets in their true directions among them. The Moon shows its phase, lit on the side facing the Sun.
-
At midnight, the Hand of the Cross points to the month
The gold hands keep the hours. The Hand of the Cross turns with the stars, a little ahead of the clock each day, so at midnight it points to the month on the outer ring.
-
Find south
The centre of the dial is the celestial pole. Match the dial to the stars, then look straight down to the horizon: that is due south.
-
Private by design
Everything is calculated on your device. No account, no ads, no tracking and no location permission.
Both skies in one clock.
Switch to the northern dial any time, with Polaris, the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia turning around the North Star. Switch the Cross on, and the Hand of the Cross carries its reflection. In 1516 the traveller Andrea Corsali wrote of a “marvellous Cross” whose stars circle the pole in twenty-four hours. Your clock now does the same. Read the story of the Cross.
